Formulary Analyst Pharmacy Technician

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform all functions and duties of a Pharmacy Technician to ensure prompt service in the Pharmacy Department.
  • Responsible for review, analysis and classification of drugs in support of the weekly First Databank (FDB), National Drug Data File (NDDF) update process and new FDB programs and applications.
  • Develops queries to research, gather data and identify solutions.
  • Enter prescription information including but not limited to: patient information, prescriber information, drug selection, insurance billing, etc.
  • Supports formulary maintenance by populating formulary action grids, coding BCRs and updating the formularies and drug lists directly into the formulary system.
  • Successfully take prescription through full life-cycle including: retrieving proper medications, create proper prescription labels, etc.
  • Creates and maintains the NDDF Policy, Procedures, and Operations manual. Provide technical guidance to internal users and trainers of operational functions in support of the NDDF processes.
  • Assist in inventory management processes including: order review, inventory returns, restocking shelves, and physical inventory preparation.
  • Complete paperwork related to filling prescriptions and input customer and prescription data into the computer system.

Accountabilities Include

  • Supports the Clinical Formulary and Strategic Initiative Projects teams efforts to develop a manual tiered formulary configuration for inferred tier commercial formularies.
  • Uses knowledge of inferred tier formularies, FDB drug data, drug data attributes and hierarchy, and internal database systems, to assist with drug list creation and review for accuracy.
  • Supports efficient and accurate migration of current clients from inferred tier to manual tier.
  • Support for internal department training on the new configuration: Implementation, Configuration Services, Clinical Programs and Analytics, Industry Relations, Sales (PMB Consults), CPM team and Account Management.
  • Support for external teams/entities to understand the new configuration. This includes report and formulary extract generation.
  • Supports initial updating and maintenance of the new manual tiered formularies.
  • Ensures the integrity of the formulary data, recognizes & resolves discrepancies, and communicates progress

Specific Formulary Analyst Pharmacy Technician requirements:

  • Area: Ability to work in the San Diego, CA area
  • Licensure requirements: Must have valid, open and active California Pharmacy Technician license
  • Education: B.S. and PTCB certification, both preferred but not required. Project Management certification or equivalent training preferred.
  • Skills: Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Years of experience: 4 - 5 years of recent pharmacy technician experience in a Pharmacy Benefits Management setting.
  • Schedule: TBD
  • Length of Assignment:  Temporary, 6 months
  • Pay: $23.00 - 28.00/Hr. DOE
  • Background/drug requirements: Ability to successfully complete background check and drug screen
