Five Pharmacy Interview Mistakes to Avoid

Job interviews are among the most stressful situations. You know everything you do is being evaluated, so you want to perform your best. To help you do that, here are a few mistakes to avoid.

Not preparing.

Preparation is key for any interview. You need to know about the healthcare organization. This includes basic information about the company and its operation, as well as its mission, goals and values.

There are several questions that are staples for just about any job interview. You need to prepare for these questions, so you can give coherent, persuasive responses. For example, some of these questions include the following: tell us about yourself; why do you want to work here; where do you see yourself in five years; what are your strengths and weaknesses.

You don’t need to memorize your answers word for word, but you should have some key points put together.

Not being yourself.

Often, we try to fit ourselves into the mold of what we think the hiring manager is looking for. But in the process, we suppress our personalities, which is what we should be trying to highlight. You are trying to sell yourself, not someone else.

Looking nervous or distracted.

You obviously want to appear confident, relaxed and enthusiastic. Easier said than done in this situation. If you are well prepared, however, that will go a long way toward easing your anxiety. Make sure to get plenty of rest before the interview.

Some career counselors recommend having a workout several hours before the interview. This will fatigue your body enough to counteract the heightened anxiety you may feel.

Body language is important also. Greet the hiring manager with a firm handshake. Look them in the eye and smile. During the interview, avoid fidgeting or doing things like drumming your fingers.

Not asking questions.

You should prepare questions about the job for the hiring manager. Others will occur to you during the interview. If you have no questions about the job, the hiring manager may think you are not that interested.

Not sending a thank-you note.

After the interview, immediately send a note to the hiring manager thanking them for the opportunity to interview and reiterating your interest in the job.
